The 1st Uhlan Regiment of the 5th Polish Rifle Division was formed in Siberia at the end of 1918.

The unit was part of the so-called Siberian Division, formed by Poles fighting on the anti-Bolshevik side.

The regiment's commander was Lieutenant Colonel Konrad Piekarski.

The Uhlan were organized into several squadrons serving in reconnaissance, screening, and attack roles.

The soldiers were recruited from Poles living in Siberia and former soldiers of the Russian Army.

The regiment fought in the Novonikolayevsk and Krasnoyarsk regions, protecting the railway lines and the division's support base.

The operations were conducted in extremely difficult climatic conditions and amidst shortages of supplies.

In 1919, the Uhlan fought heavy battles with the Red Army, gradually being pushed further and further east.

On January 10, 1920, after the 5th Polish Rifle Division was surrounded near Klukwienna, the regiment was defeated.

Some soldiers were captured, and a few made it to China, thus ending the regiment's history.
