Cossack Papakha

Worn in the Tsarist army since 1817, initially only by Cossack units. Over time, it became popular throughout the Russian army and before World War I was standardized as a high cap made of sheep's wool.

For ideological reasons, its wearing was initially banned in the Red Army. It returned in 1936 as an element of the uniform of Cossack units.
