The Polish Airmen's Forage Cap, a tsarist version of this headgear, was a characteristic element of the clothing of Polish pilots. It was often used as part of their private equipment, to which, after attaching an eagle - the symbol of the Republic of Poland, it became a Polish forage cap.

At first glance, this forage cap resembled the headgear of the Greater Poland army, but it was distinguished by subtle but significant differences. Mainly, it was about construction details, such as the shape of the cap or the way it was finished, as well as the color scheme, which was different than in the case of traditional forage caps worn by the Greater Poland army. These changes were intended to better adapt the headgear to the specific needs and traditions of Polish aviation, and were also an expression of military distinctiveness and identity, in this case of pilots.
