    The beret used by the Wehrmacht (WH) armored forces during World War II was a characteristic element of the uniform of tank crews and other armored vehicles.

    In the initial period of the war, tank crews wore black berets, which were part of their specialized uniform. Black berets were intended to protect the head from impacts inside the vehicle and were a symbol of the elite of armored units.

    They consisted of an outer beret and felt protection with a leather insert.
