    Zouaves of Death Cap During the conquest of North Africa in the first half of the 19th century, the French army encountered the Zouaves (from Arabic zuāwa) in Algeria. This brave Kabyle tribe, having allied with France, rendered her great service by providing troops of excellent light infantry. After the Crimean War, in which troops formed in the style of zuaves achieved many successes, they became an extremely popular formation.

    During the January Uprising in Krakow, a fencing teacher Franciszek Rochebrun (French by origin) formed a branch of "Zuaves of Death". They wore black cloth vests with a white cross sewn on them and so-called jackets. chubs. Many of them also used fez in national colors - red cloth trimmed with a white lambskin rim.

    The presented cap is sewn in the type of Turkish fez with a tassel.
