    After Poland regained independence in 1918, the Polish prison system was basically created from scratch.

    On February 7 and 8, 1919, the Chief of State Józef Piłsudski issued decrees on the organization of "District Prison Directorates" and on "Temporary Prison Regulations". These were some of the first legal acts issued in the reborn Poland, on the basis of which the Prison Guard was established.

    In 1932, the President of the Republic of Poland issued a regulation on the Prison Guard (Journal of Laws 1932 No. 74 item 667), on the basis of which the prison system operated until 1954.
